From 4th to 7 th of March 2010, in Mantua, CRINVE 2010 International Congress will be held on the subject "Author and victims of crime, between assessment and recognition: a comparative analysis", organized by the High School in Criminological and Investigative Sciences - CRINVE, headed by the FDE Institute, directed by Prof. Marco Monzani and by the Judicial Psychiatric Hospital of Castiglione of Stiviere (MN). During this meeting will assemble in Mantua some of the top experts in criminology, legal medicine, law, forensic psychiatry and psychology, from all over the world. They will compare the typical themes of criminology and new issues "de jure condendo" that will be proposed, for the occasion, for the attention of the international scientific community and to the political institutions.
The Congress will be divided into 4 days, during each of them will present an idiosyncratic theme, whereof speakers will make a comparison.
The first day there will be a roundtable where we will discuss the desirability or otherwise maintenance of the prohibition of, so called, criminological survey ex-art. 220 c.p.p. (Italian Penal Procedural Code) for the evaluation of social dangerousness of the offender. In this roundtable, lawyers and criminologists engaged in the field from years, will be there. The Purpose of the day will be to prepare a joint document in which we will stress the need for legislative reform in Italy, which will go in the direction of the abolition of that prohibition. We will analyze the pros and cons of the proposal. For this reason, during the first day, local and national politicians will be attended to the debate.
The second day will concern the figure of the author of crime and it will be structured as follows: during the morning we will address the issues of the known offender, especially the typical themes of forensic psychopathology represented by the chargeability and by the social dangerousness with the intention of a re-reading of these issues, based on the new frontiers of forensic psychiatry and of psychology. Italian, European and American scientists will take turns, to realize a compared perspective between the laws of different countries. In the afternoon, we will address the issue of the unknown author of crime, in particular about the investigative tools that in the recent years, have been used in the investigation stage to identify precisely an unknown author of crime. The topic of the "criminal and geographical profiling" will be presented by U.S. scientists belonging to the BSU (Behavioral Science Unit at Quantico USA) of the FBI who created and used, for first time, these tools, we will discuss of their "scientific value" (or rather, of their "Scientific limit") based on their thirty years experience. This session will end with the presentation of a research project on "Genetics and Aggressive Behavior", that CRINVE will finance and develop.
The third day will be dedicated to the victim of crime, subject still ignored today by the different criminal justice systems and by the ,so called, agency of formal control. The morning section will concern, in particular, the theme of the contribution of the victim in the investigations, and at this regard, various speakers will compare criminal justice systems and different techniques used to develop this area. In the afternoon the issue of support networks for victims of crime will be discussed, as a problem much delicate as fundamental to give back these people the dignity that the criminal event has taken away to their. Also fundamental, in this session, the comparison between the different support networks present today in the various countries. This session will end with the presentation of a publication of some specializing students of CRINVE on "Victim and Author of Crime", where the High School will edit through its collection of criminology.
The fourth day, will be dedicated to a specific topic, namely, the issue of sexual abuse on child. The morning will concern a discussion on the attendance of a forensic profile of the "pedophile-type" and to this regard we will compare the different schools of thought, of America and some European countries. In the afternoon, finally, the delicate issue of the reliability of the child and of the credibility of his story, we will be analyzed, again in a compared perspective, the tools available to the psychological sciences to assess these variables, analyzing in particular the limits that these instruments have intrinsic limitations or limitations germinated by an incorrect application of themselves. The Congress will end with the presentation of the results of a research financed by the Interdepartmental Center for Research and Services in Forensic Medicine Applied, Penal and Criminological Techniques and Victimology of the University of Ferrara, entitled: "Suggestibility: research and applications in forensic ambit".
