The attention on scientific aspects and methodological approaches on teaching have always been focus of our Higher School. From 2007 to 2010 was an experimental period, where the fields of study, the faculty and the relationship with the scientific community has improved and have taken a specific line.
Some improvements:
-
Strengthening leadership skills and scientific coordination, as a body of scientific management with the task of continuous monitoring of the educational and scientific activities.
-
The new system has largely emphasized the importance of both fields of study, defining two biennials specific courses while showing an essential interdisciplinarity of the criminological and investigative approaches in view to form an investigative criminologist.
-
International faculty composed by imminent members coming from all over the world (Vanille VA USA, Tampa SF USA, Tilburg HL, Rotterdam HL, Leuven BE, Newcastle UK).
-
Local stages and international interships inside structures and bodies of criminologica and investigative contest.
-
International Congress of Higher School in Criminological and Investigative Sciences - CRINVE, as a principal moment of scientific comparison with all the professional and scientifc community.
-
Participation, like assistant, on SAI LAB investigations case consultation.

The idea of activating in Mantua, capital city of Virgilian Lands, the Specializing School in Criminological and Investigative Sciences stemmed from the need to adapt to the international situation that, nowadays, requires the training of new roles, capable to meet the incessant requirements in the investigation and the civil protection field. The training path provides a deep knowledge of criminology and criminal policy, setting them in the wider international context. Furthermore, it aims at preparing the participants to the management of modern control and safety strategies in the prevention and repression of crimes, in connection with the analysis and intelligence investigation methodologies.
The Law 397/2000 introduces the principle of "equal status in trial between prosecution and defence" in the current penal justice system through the defensive investigations. In this context, the expert adviser's role becomes fundamental. At this point training of a new professional person capable of helping the court private parts (defence and claimants) and the public prosecution is necessary.

THE ITALIAN CRIMINOLOGY
The School, in pursuing its academic goals, aims at promoting the preparation of new professional figures, ready to face the themes linked to today's crime. The course offers the possibility to specialize in new, modern and, especially, strongly necessary fields, through a training path that gives the students the most innovative techniques and social investigation methodologies. Analysing the current situation within the academic and forensic field, nowadays, no one can bear the title of criminologist a part from a reduced number of professional people that 10 years ago, before the Specialising University Schools in Criminology were closed, obtained such a title. In Italy an Order of Criminologists or a Criminology Faculty does not exist therefore the criminologist investigator is so called for his or her professional skills acquired on the field. Here it is why at this moment, for those who intend to go into a career in the criminology and investigation field it is more important to have scientific knowledge and technical operational skills and not a simple qualification that would be difficult to use in any context.

JOB OPPORTUNITIES
The School is not a degree course but it is a biennial training path that gives an international professional qualification and, thanks to in-depth study of the relevant subjects and the great prestige of the teachers, the school is of the highest academic standard, also given the lack of qualified professionals. The job opportunities offered by this school can vary from penitentiary administration to research, from university to expert's appraisal, from finding a job in the public or private sector to the private practice and also in victim support area.
The FDE institute, centre of great experience in the training field adds to its value the professionalism and competence of professors, researchers and expert advisers nominated by the Scientific Committee, in order to provide a professional qualification that has no equals in Italy.
